What is ORYX?

Thank you for evaluating or purchasing ORYX, our leading edge product! ORYX is the premier data extraction, manipulation, processing and reporting tool, aimed at analysts, data processing staff, and staff involved in management information and other IT tasks. ORYX is based around a toolkit approach: each tool in ORYX performs one task exceptionally well, but with simple configuration requirements they are quick to implement.

After years of research we found that many data tools have some important drawbacks:

  • They can be slow and difficult to configure
  • Testing can be painful
  • They are difficult to troubleshoot
  • The level of skill required to implement simple data processing and reporting tasks often outweighs the benefit
  • Often staff prefer tools like Excel and Access over these products, because of the simplicity and relatively short time to implementation.
  • Performance and reliability pose real problems to the end user, particularly in deadline-orientated environments

However, when larger quantities of data are involved, or where data processing tasks are complex, more sophisticated tools might be needed. ORYX was designed to empower end users to automate and streamline tasks easily on their own desktop. By adopting a workbench design, we provide the tools within a highly stable and performance-tuned environment, and let the user configure them to perform tasks in a way that is natural to them.

Finally, ORYX permits design vs. execution separation. The Studio version is geared towards power users and process designers, while the Reader version suits end users who need to operate processes, but do not design them. Click here for more information on editions.

HOW CAN ORYX IMPROVE YOUR BUSINESS?

Firstly, it provides a flexible environment to automate data and reporting processes – many seemingly simple tasks can be extremely difficult to achieve with conventional tools. The ORYX design philosophy means that these tasks can not only be performed, but can be automated in record time, meaning that repeat process runs incur negligible effort and cost.

Also, the quality of the data extract and reporting tools means that analysts can use ORYX to extract data quickly and efficiently, without some of the time overhead and reliability constraints, inherent in other tool-sets.

Finally, the fact that ORYX is fully multithreaded means that all processing happens in the background, and can be stopped / paused any time by the user.

  • ORYX is designed to empower users to perform better and to focus on value-adding activities
  • ORYX’s unique design provides a rich, agile set of tools within a tightly controlled environment. Whether you require agile reporting or complex rules-based processing, ORYX offers all the tools you need to get the job done quickly.
  • ORYX reduces the distance between tactical and strategic solutions to a single click. Having prototyped a solution in ORYX, it can be locked down and deployed strategically. New changes can be quickly tested, signed off and deployed without extensive rework, reducing development time.
  • To reduce risk, we looked at how we could apply manufacturing techniques to processes. This would involve quality assurance, error prevention, testing, process control, and automation. ORYX was designed to make these techniques readily available to business data processing, analysis, reporting and other operations, but with a low cost and without technical barrier.
  • ORYX offers organisations an opportunity to reduce costs in two areas: solution development, and probably the largest hidden cost – lost user productivity.
